In 2025, we proudly launched the very first Captain of Cromane Seafest, and Chiara McGrath (née O’Sullivan) set the tone in style.
A true Cromane woman, Chiara comes from one of the parish’s most well-known families, with strong roots in the local fishing community and a deep connection to everything Seafest represents. She brought warmth, energy, and plenty of personality to the role – along with a sharp wit that kept everyone on their toes.
As the first ever Captain – and the first female to hold the title – Chiara made a lasting impression. She brought enthusiasm, warmth and pride to the role, embodying the strong sense of community and tradition that Seafest celebrates each year. More than simply representing Cromane, she set an inspiring example, showing that leadership within our community is open to everyone.
She didn’t just make history – she embraced it. A fantastic ambassador for Seafest and for Cromane, Chiara showcased the pride, spirit and sense of fun that defines the festival, and she has certainly left her mark… while raising a smile or two along the way.
As for who will take up the mantle in 2026? Let’s just say… watch this space
